When looking at our lives
we’re supposed to think back
on the choices we’ve made
to figure out how to choose
better next time.
But, choices feel a little mythical
when only one appears
available at that moment of truth.
When there’s only one way to take,
is that a choice?
Inaction is always an option, too.
For every hero’s journey, there’s that
moment of truth, where the hero
decides to ignore or act,
decides to stay in their life
or risk it all for the unknown.
Shaking off complacency
and leaving the familiar,
the comfortable,
the loved
for new adventures
that end up causing tragedy
and resulting in triumph—
sometimes.
Hero’s journey?
I don’t have the ego
to think of life that way.
